Northwest of the Santa Monica Mountains lies Calabasas. Downtown Los Angeles is only 31 miles from Calabasas. This city’s name also serves as the Spanish name for squash. As of 2019 the estimated population is 23,853. The city has 13 square miles of area. The policies for the city of Calabasas are agreed upon a council of five members. It remains as the 27th Senate District and the 33rd congressional district.
Calabasas has a few notable places that makes it to be one of the wealthiest cities in the United States. It holds the headquarters for The Cheesecake Factory, DTS Inc. and Harbor Freight Tools. The Cheesecake Factory remains as the top employer of the city with over 1,179 employees as of 2018. Along with these astounding companies Calabasas also homes some amazing places. It has the Malibu Hindu Temple, King Gillette Ranch, Gates Canyon Park, Grape Arbor Park, Calabasas Bark Park, and Wild Walnut Park. Calabasas is home to many celebrities including the majority of the Kardashian and Jenner family, Justin Beber, Brandon Boyd, Jordyn Woods, and many more.
Many events are held in Calabasas. They have annual events including: Eggstravaganza, The Pumpkin Festival, The Fourth of July Spectacular, The Calabasas Film Festival and The Fine Arts Festival. All of these events are sponsored by the city of Calabasas. As of now there is only one weekly event that occurs and that is the farmers market. This takes place on Calabasas road and is open every Saturday from 8am to 1pm. For traveling in Calabasas to any of these events or to commute to work or shopping, Calabasas has it’s own transportation service. This city provides shuttles and trolleys for anyone needed to make their way around.
Calabasas is committed to going green. It is also known as Green city. The strive for environmental friendly development and upgrading existing development to make it more environmentally friendly makes Calabasas stands out.
