In western Los Angeles County lies Santa Monica. This is a beachfront city with absolutely beautiful views. It is surrounded by Pacific Palisades, West Los Angeles, Brentwood, Venice, and Mar Vista. The estimated population is over 90,401 people.
Santa Monica has so much to offer from shopping to recreational play to music and art. There are 3 main shopping areas in Santa Monica including Downtown District, Montana Avenue, and Main street. The Downtown District is one of the most favorable as it is home to the Third Street Promenade. It has major outdoor shopping available and it is pedestrian-only. There is much to be offered in this area as it has specialty retail, clothing, and various restaurants. At the southern end of the Promenade lies Santa Monica Place. This is an outdoor shopping experience hosted on three levels. Some favorable stores such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s are located here.
There are numerous ways of transportation in Santa Monica. Bicycles are pretty common as Santa Monica has a bike action plan and pushes a bicycle sharing system. Another common way of commute is by scooter. Permits were issued for Lyft, Lime, Jump Bikes, and Bird to provide dock-less scooter systems to share for the community. This took place in 2018. Of course, motorized vehicles are common as well. There are the Santa Monica freeway travelers can take that goes near the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica and heads out eastward. Santa Monica city also provides its own bus service known as Big Blue Bus. This bus transport covers the majority of West Los Angeles and the University of California Los Angeles. A light rail is also available for commuters in Santa Monica. Various proposals have been made over the years for the extension of the Purple Line Subway to proceed under Wilshire Boulevard. If this took take place it would be known as the “subway to the sea” project. Santa Monica Airport is also available for travelers for general aviation.
The entertainment industry has been known for visits to Santa Monica. There have been numerous films and television shows that have used the scenic beauty of Santa Monica. Santa Monica can be caught in several well-known movies including The Net, Forrest Gump, Cellular, Ocean’s Eleven, Get Shorty, and many more.
